Routes from Dundas up to Ancaster and the Mountain climb the escarpment. The City of Hamilton gives escarpment crossings first priority in winter, along with main routes (City of Hamilton winter control update, November 2018), so cars that use them pick up a heavy coat of salt and slush on the lower doors, rockers and wheels.
Highway 8 and the conservation area
The old trail west from Dundas toward Brantford followed the break in the escarpment, and Highway 8 still heads west from the town toward Peters Corners. Dundas also borders the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, so trail parking means dust, mud and the occasional branch scrape.
Winter
Dundas has been a Hamilton community since amalgamation, so its roads get the city's mix of salt, pickle mix and salt brine through the cold months, and the steep streets get it early.

Do the hills around Dundas matter for my paint?
Escarpment crossings are first-priority winter roads in Hamilton, which means more salt and slush on the car. The lower panels and wheels carry most of it. A ceramic coating makes it easier to rinse off.
Can you detail an older car with faded paint?
Often, yes. We assess every panel first. Paint correction can bring back gloss where the clear coat is still sound, and we tell you honestly where it is not.
