Machine Polish

Paint Correction

What It Is

Remove the Swirls Before You Seal the Paint

Paint correction is machine polishing that removes swirl marks, haze and light scratches from the clear coat. It is the step that makes dull paint look deep again, and it is the right prep before ceramic coating or paint protection film. Book a drop-off appointment at our Ancaster studio.

We assess every panel before touching paint. Some defects come out completely, some only partly, and some are too deep to polish safely. You hear which is which before any work starts.

What It Fixes

Common Defects We Look For

01

Swirl Marks

Fine circular scratches from brushes, dirty mitts and drying towels. They show most in direct sun on dark paint.

Wash Damage
02

Haze and Dullness

Paint that has lost its depth and clarity. Polishing levels the surface so light reflects evenly again.

Gloss
03

Light Scratches

Scratches that sit in the clear coat can often be reduced or removed. Deeper ones may only improve.

Clear Coat
04

Water Spot Etching

Marks left when hard water dries on the paint can etch into the surface. Light etching often polishes out.

Mineral Marks
The Process

How It Works

01

Wash and Decontaminate

The car is washed and bonded contamination is removed so polishing works on clean paint.

02

Assess Every Panel

We check each panel and agree with you what the goal is before the machine touches it.

03

Polish and Protect

Panels are machine polished, then protected, ideally with ceramic coating or film.

FAQ

Common Questions

What is paint correction?

Machine polishing that levels the top of the clear coat to remove defects such as swirl marks, haze and light scratches, instead of filling and hiding them.

Will it remove every scratch?

No. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat, polishing cannot remove it safely. We look at the paint first and tell you what can and cannot come out.

Why do it before ceramic coating or PPF?

Both lock in whatever is underneath. A coating or film over swirls keeps the swirls. Correction first means the protection goes over clean, glossy paint.

How is it different from a polish in a detail?

A detail can include a light machine polish for gloss. Correction goes further, removing as much of the visible defect as the paint safely allows. Paint correction stages explained covers the difference.
