Cover the Front, Where the Chips Land
Front-end coverage puts paint protection film on the front bumper, hood, fenders, side mirrors and door edges. Those are the panels that face the road and take stone chips on highway commutes like the 403 and the QEW. We fit it at our Ancaster studio by appointment.
You choose how much to cover. The cards below explain what each area protects, so you can decide where film earns its place on your car.
What Each Area Protects
Front Bumper
Lowest and most forward. It takes the first and hardest hits from debris thrown up ahead.
Hood
Chips collect along the leading edge first. A chipped hood is the first thing people notice.
Fenders
The corners around the headlights sit in the same spray as the bumper.
Side Mirrors
Curved caps that face straight into traffic and chip easily.
Door Edges
Thin strips that protect the edges from nicks against walls, posts and other doors.
Three Questions to Ask Yourself
How Much Highway Driving?
Long highway commutes mean more debris at speed. The more highway time, the more the front end needs.
How Long Will You Keep It?
If you plan to keep the car for years, or turn in a lease, protecting the front end protects its value.
How Much Does a Chip Bother You?
Some owners live with a few chips. Others want the front end to stay clean. There is no wrong answer.
Common Questions
Do I need to cover all five areas?
No. Coverage is your choice. Many people start with the bumper and hood, then add fenders, mirrors and door edges. We talk it through and quote what you choose.
Will the film show where it ends on the hood?
If only part of a panel is covered, there is an edge where the film stops. Covering the whole panel moves that edge to the panel's own edge, where it is much harder to see. Ask us to explain the options for your car.
What about the rest of the car?
The front end takes most of the chips. For the remaining panels, ceramic coating adds gloss and makes washing easier. See PPF vs ceramic coating.
